+ About this map
Mount Belford rises to 14,203 feet in Colorado’s Sawatch Range, one of the Collegiate Peaks above Missouri Gulch near Buena Vista. It is classically paired with Mount Oxford, its neighbour to the east, in a single day’s climb along the connecting ridge, and Missouri Mountain stands across Elkhead Pass to the west. The steep, switchbacking northwest ridge is one of the more direct routes among the fourteeners.
This map traces the group of three summits around Missouri Gulch. The contour lines climb from the Clear Creek valley in the north through the gulch to Belford’s summit, with the ridge east to Oxford and the pass west to Missouri both visible as breaks in the pattern. The elevation on this sheet runs from about 9,600 feet to the 14,203-foot summit, roughly 4,600 feet of relief.
