+ About this map
Mount Oxford rises to 14,160 feet in Colorado’s Sawatch Range, one of the Collegiate Peaks above the Arkansas Valley. It is a quieter mountain than its neighbors, usually climbed together with Mount Belford by way of the connecting ridge, since the drop into the saddle between them is modest and the two summits sit barely a mile apart.
This map traces a rounded summit set between two deep drainages. The contour lines are widely spaced across the summit plateau and the ridge running west toward Belford, then tighten as the mountain falls north toward the Clear Creek valley and south into the Pine Creek valley. The south side is the steeper, drawn as a set of close parallel bands, while the eastern ridges taper gradually toward the valley. Within this frame the terrain covers about 3,500 feet from the creek beds to the summit, a characteristically broad Sawatch mountain with more bulk than drama.
